Sir Alex Ferguson Surprised By Man United's Start

Sir Alex has admitted that he is surprised at how his side have dealt with the tough matches so far this season and has warned that the games will not get any easier as the season wears on. United have so far won 1-2 away at West Brom, beaten Tottenham 3-0, thrashed Arsenal 8-2 and have now put 5 goals past Bolton in scoring a record 18 goals in the opening 4 games so far. "When I saw the programme to begin with I thought it would be tough but the boys are coping with it very well," Sir Alex told MUTV. "There are a lot of big games coming up. We've got Chelsea next Sunday and we've got to go to Lisbon on Wednesday which is an important game. Benfica have always been tremendous opponents of ours and it'll be another hard game." Sir Alex also took the time to praise our little Mexican, who scored a brace in the first game of the new Premier League season. "He's a menace to any defender," the Boss said of Chicharito. Chris Smalling Comes To David De Gea's Defense

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has defended David de Gea after the goalkeeper's errors in the first two matches of the season. West Brom's Shane Long and Manchester City's Edin Dzeko both scored after De Gea was slow to get down to low shots. "Some of the media has been a bit judgmental based on the first couple of games," said Smalling. "He has trained really well this week. You can see his agility and kicking. He will be a great goalkeeper for us." United signed De Gea from Atletico Madrid in June, in a deal thought to be worth £18.9m, after his predecessor Edwin van der Sar retired at the end of last season.

Sneijder Not For Sale, Say Inter Milan

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti remains adamant that Wesley Sneijder will not be going anywhere this summer. The Dutchman has been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United this summer and claimed last week that 'unofficial' talks had taken place with the Premier League champions. Sir Alex Ferguson had previously tried to dismiss the speculation, while he has also made it clear he has faith in United's young players and is not planning to make further additions to the squad. Moratti maintains there is no chance of Sneijder leaving Inter before the transfer window closes at the end of the month as he is regarded as too important a player to let go. Untouchable Inter have always been determined to keep hold of the midfielder and the fact that Samuel Eto'o could be set for a move elsewhere has only strengthened their resolve. "Sneijder away? For Wes there has never been any sort of negotiation," Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport. ...

He added: "I have contacts with everybody." In July, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson denied making a contract offer to Sneijder, while Inter said they had not had an approach from United.

Federico Macheda posted the above on twitter, and the rumour that Sneijder's move to United is imminent, have gone into over-drive. This is one signing we would really love to see at United, though the reported 35 million pound fee does seem a bit steep for a 27 year old. ROM

Chelsea May Enter Race For Samir Nasri Signature

Chelsea are monitoring Samir Nasri's situation at Arsenal and could challenge Manchester United for the France international's signature should their pursuit of alternative targets, principally Tottenham Hotspur's Luka Modric, be frustrated. Arsenal have, as yet, failed to convince Nasri to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium, where the midfielder, a £15.8m signing from Marseille in 2008, has entered the final 12 months of his contract. Large Transfer Fee Would Not Faze De Gea

Manchester United target David De Gea says a large transfer fee in a move to Man United would not faze him. The Athletico Madrid and Spain under 21 goal keeper will reportedly cost United £18m, which would see him the second most expensive goal keeper behind Gianluigi Buffon, who cost Juventus £32.6m in 2001. But the young goal keeper is focused on his performance on the pitch and said of the transfer fee, "that does not interest me. The value that really counts is what you do on the pitch." And went on to comment on the prospect of joining Manchester United, "I feel very motivated that Manchester United are thinking about me."
